“Readings at the Ella” – 2012 Winter Season

Center Stage Jackson and Ella Sharp Museum encourage you to bring a friend to lunch at the Granary and stay for a free play reading afterwards!

Plays begin at 2:00 pm in the
Community Room at the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History, 3225 Fourth St., Jackson, MI 49203.

Reservations for the play readings are not necessary.  All readings are free but donations are welcome.

“Readings at the Ella” is sponsored by the Ella Sharp Museum of History and Art and funded by the Jackson Literary and Arts Association to bring newer plays to Jackson audiences; and to allow local performers who may have not been able to participate in main stage productions an opportunity to share their talents.  Actors read from scripts using minimal or no props, sets or costumes.

“A Song for Coretta” is a moving testament to the civil rights icon, Coretta Scott King, seen through the eyes of a handful of random fictional mourners who have lined up to say goodbye to the beloved Mrs. King. It is funny, fierce and moving. (February 4th).

“Soccer Moms” deals with three women who leave their traditional spot on the sidelines to play in the annual mother-son soccer game. This ordinary day becomes extraordinary as the competition ignites their fierce desire to recapture their spirit, humor and passion. You will laugh while recognizing and identifying with their struggles (March 10th).

“The Real Christopher Bean”, an acclaimed artist, has died some years earlier and now the outside world is in pursuit of his work and any details they can gather about his life and character. Dr. Haggett and his family of patrician New Englanders, own some of Bean's canvases and become avaricious when informed of their market value. It is Abby, the family servant, who ultimately overcomes them all: she possesses one of his greatest paintings which she cannot be persuaded into selling at any price (April 7th).

Center Stage Jackson is Jackson's community theatre group. Formed in 2001 when Jackson Civic Theatre and Clark Lake Players merged, Center Stage Jackson is a non-profit production company dedicated to presenting quality theatrical productions in the Greater Jackson, Michigan area.
