Outdoor Fires

All outdoor burning in Columbia Township requires a burning permit. There is NO COST for a burning permit. Burning permits can be obtained by the following means:

· Calling the Township Offices at 517-592-2000
· Calling the Fire Department at 517-592-8654
· E-mail by going to the township website www.twp.columbia.mi.us
and filling out the on-line burn permit request form
· Stop in to the Fire Department or Township Offices at 8500 Jefferson Rd.

A few reminders about burning :

· Village residents are not allowed to burn yard waste, you may only burn household paper waste in a burning barrel with a screen over the top
· Do not burn if the winds are greater than 8 mph
· Do not burn any construction waste
· Hours for burning are 7am-7pm
· Fires must be attended at all times

Out Fire Chief, Shawn Lutz has stated "Burning of leaves and yard debris can and does create neighborhood disputes due to the smoke and ash droppings". He urges residents to be considerate of other property owners in the Neighborhood and to burn safely.
